Gambia Export Parity Analysis

The team at WhitePeak was engaged by the Government of Gambia and the World Bank, to develop Agribusiness Diagnostics for Gambia, and conduct an export price parity analysis to understand the trade competitiveness of seelcted agribusiness comodities. This would further inform the World Bank agribusiness portfolio and future projects. The project planned to conduct value chain analysis through rigorous secondary research encompassing in-depth analysis of academic literature, government statistics, and other research sources. The final deliverable included:

• A thorough analysis of agri-business value chains in Gambia for five commodities – Rice, Maize, Horticulture, Cashew and Poultry (Broiler)
• A comprehensive export price parity analysis of competitive prospects which included detailed breakdown of cost and margin for each stakeholder in all five value chains 
• A detailed analysis of the trade data and international prices of the selected agri-commodities to identify opportunities for private sector interventions. 
• An analysis of the potential private investors with a potential interest in the five identified value chains and investment models that could be encouraged and adopted by these investors 
• A detailed study of the constraints in the value chains, and suggested recommendations that could be adopted to overcome these challenges
