The team member at WhitePeak was engaged by the World Bank, to develop Agribusiness Diagnostics and Strategy for Iraq, which would further inform the World Bank agribusiness portfolio and future projects. Secondary research encompassed in-depth analysis of academic literature, government statistics, and other research sources, to inform about the business environment in Iraq. The final deliverable included:
- A broader overview of the country’s economic condition, demographics, and agricultural sector
- A comprehensive study of support services in the country such as - access to finance, storage, access to power, transport, packaging, and Market Information Systems.
- An extensive study of Value Chain nodes such as - Research and Development, agri-inputs supply, production and post-production, processing, and distribution and marketing
- A thorough study of Market linkages of Value Chain actors enumerating the various trends, and models, and identifying the opportunities in the values chain
- A comprehensive study of the regulatory framework, in areas such as - export procedures, business license, quality control, food safety, subsidies & government price support.
- A comprehensive study on agri-specific regulations for sectors such as- seed, irrigation, access to credit, mechanization & labor, agronomic practices & post-harvest market access.
